🌿 New Milestone Achieved in Cyclolive-Prima Project: Microcosm Trials on Olive Mill Wastewater Treatment 🌿 Morocco
On behalf of the Cyclolive-Prima Project, we’re excited to share a significant step forward in our research. A new milestone has been reached through a Microcosm experiment, conducted as part of a master’s student project in Morocco (Cadi Ayyad University), focusing on sustainable treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMWW).
This experimental setup explores the use of biochar-based constructed wetlands as a nature-based solution to protect surrounding ecosystems before OMWW is discharged into nearby rivers.
Key components of the study include:
• Monitoring phytoplankton diversity and density, serving as bioindicators of ecosystem health.
• Tracking nutrient evolution over time to assess water quality improvements.
• Evaluating various ratios and setups to identify the optimal treatment conditions.
These results are not only promising but crucial. They will serve as a scientific foundation for designing the Macrocosm-scale experiment scheduled for November, helping us move from controlled conditions to real-world environmental applications.
👏 Congratulations to the team and especially to the master’s student leading this important work! Go-supervise by Dr.Aafaf ( FVB-IGB)
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working toward greener and more sustainable olive oil production practices across the Mediterranean region.
