🌍✨ In WP2 of the #Cyclolive project, the German partners from Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries visited Tunisia from 1st to 5th of December 2024 focusing on monitoring water quality of aquatic ecosystems around extraction areas of olive oil production and planning to assess potential impacts of olive oil waste water (OMWW) discharge in mesocosm systems.
📍 The first field trip included visits to olive oil mills in the Sfax region : @Huilerie Hassan Ellouze and @Huilerie Zouari. The German team and the Tunisian partners from the University of Sfax explored the olive oil extraction process 🛠️, and inspected the resulting OMWW and OMSW (olive mill solid waste) by-products ♻️.
The visit was rounded off with a delightful tasting session of various olive oils produced through different extraction processes, highlighting the richness and diversity of this iconic product 🌿✨.
